Appreciate the creativity on this beast, and pause for a moment! Rolf Sachs, preeminent industrial designer, and Fortis collaborated on this very intelligent timepiece (forgive the pun), The IQ. If you’re unaware of Rolf Sachs, check his site and spend some time googling the dude.
This limi dropped in 2008, and I am anxiously awaiting another collabo like this, be it with Fortis or any other watchmaker. Just look at the face of it and you see all that would ever need to say about this piece. But I’m going to say something anyway… I mean, who would have thought of creative numeration like this, 90° representing 3 o’clock and just to tease your IQ…. a ? at 10 o’clock. Come on!!! Why didn’t I think of this? Shhhhh!!!
Collaborations like this totally make my case that watchmakers need to release more pieces like this every year. Yes, limited editions are in order, but stretching the creativity with at least one piece in a maker’s collection is truly necessary. I’m still digging for more designers that fly under the radar, similar to Sachs and Marc Newson. Anyone reading this, send me notes about the designers that you know of that are bringing max creativity. They will be profiled!!!
