kobold and the gavrila??? just read along and see what I’m talking about…

So, I’ve been admiring the Black Phantom Ops for quite some time and recently I wondered what would be an ideal complement to it in the automotive world. Jeeps, Hummers and the like were too typical, so I put this piece on “ice” for a while so that I could find the vehicle best suited for a proposed collaboration.

Months later, I roll over to my computer to check Facebook and see this concept vehicle from product designer Katerina Helwig. Katerina is a designer based in Russia and I’m really appreciate of her sharing these concept sketches of the multi-terrain vehicle, the Gravlis. After seeing Katerina’s skecthes, it immediately dawned on me that Kobold, with it’s propensity for accompanying adventurers to the most rugged spots, could form an alliance with the maker of this vehicle.

Almost ten years after introducing the original Phantom Tactical Chronograph, Kobold unveiled the Phantom Black Ops. The watch was designed with the help of U.S. Navy SEALs, who require a more stealth-like timepiece. Assembled and tested in Kobold’s facilities in Pittsburgh, the Phantom Black Ops features a stainless steel case entirely made in the USA. The surgical-grade steel case is DLC-coated and matte black in appearance. On the dial, the subdials, chronograph hands and day/date display stand in reduced contrast to the main time display, while the luminous hands and hour markers are finished in a distinctive green color.

Powered by a Swiss-made automatic chronograph movement (ETA-Valjoux 7750), which has been adjusted in five position, this military watch is not only reliable in adverse conditions, but also extremely accurate. The watch comes on a DLC-coated stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp. Because the Phantom Black Ops features a U.S.-made case, it is covered by Kobold’s 10-year warranty, instead of the 3-year warranty the company extends on its Swiss Made timepieces.

For a limited time, the Phantom Black Ops Chronograph will come on a upgraded DLC-coated titanium bracelet, a combination that is preferred by tactical operators as it optimizes the watch’s weight and balance on the wrist. In addition, and as part of the limited-time offer, a natural rubber strap and a black nylon “ZULU” strap with matching black DLC-coated metal fittings will also come with the watch.

Appreciate the Black Phantom Ops and the Gavrila, multi-terrain vehicle from Katerina and her design practice, Watch Design Consulting. Yes, you should check out their website for some cool timepiece designs as well!!!
